Stuck at home.
..... Finally get to mill some neglected woods.
This one I left to spalt and it’s turned out pretty nice. (3years total)
Lots of compression figure perpendicular to the woods length.
Milled these heavy as finish lumber goes at 3.75” .
The figure area kind of tears out and will need an abrasive planar.
I’ve run into that in past as well.... it won’t plane well without chipping up at compressed areas (Even with spiral planar).

I started by milling the entire crotch with the long bar but found after the first rip, the junction was “included” and ready to come apart so,... I took it apart in order to use the shorter bar/mill.
Only the outside slab will stay together without help.

This is the first half. Will try and get to the second section later today.
It seems to have even more figure so I may go thinner down to 2 1/4” with electric guitar blanks in mind.
17”-19” wide planks on either side of pith, tele/strat/jaguar bodies could easily be possible..... even P-bass could blank out.
We shall see.... If not 2 1/4” is still thick enough for tables blanks.

Started last summer.

Second half today.

A familiar foe! Damn nail!
About 30-40 years ago someone lived here and left a lot of metal in these trees.
I find some with a metal detector but many are deep and completely grown over.
This tree was away from the old fence line so I figured it was safe.
At least the damage to my chain was not the worst I’ve had.
