There’s a stihl 026 on facebook market place near me I’m interested in buying according to the guy he put in a new piston and rings not too long ago and it’s fully functional and ready to cut but it looks like it’s been beat on for its whole life guy wants $150. I was thinking of offering $100 because to me that’s what it’d be worth does that sound like a good number?

Depends if the new p&c are OEM or AM. That’s a Pro model, so it carries a little more resale value. Check the under side of the saw. The case is often worn badly. If it cuts well and is all OEM it’s worth $150. If it’s a chinese repair job...$40?

Agreed with above.

If they have no idea what they got, they might bite. Or if they know something you dont and they arent saying.

Check around, very similar comps at $150 price point...if you want it and it checks out, better offer $135 if you want a reply. At that point he looks cheap haggling - and you look serious as a buyer without giving room for a counter.

So I he came down to $125 if I asked him if he was firm at the $150 and I’m waiting For him to reply if he used OEM piston and rings if not I’m not sure I’ll even counter that offer I just thought it’d be a nice extra saw to have around as I don’t cut all that much other than fire wood and clearing trails which I use my Husky for.

I wouldn't say it been beat on. Clutch cover looks ok. Paint on bar yet, which don't mean much. Rear handle and recoil look ok. See what compression is and take a round with to cut. I probably would buy for $150

So he says it’s has OEM piston and caber rings I think I’m going to go look at it and see how it runs and cuts and a hundred dollar offers always worth more cash in hand than in a message.

I would pass, it’s been rebuilt and the plastics don’t match.
if it looked like this I would say go for it.
You would not want my saw, it has a farmertec handle on it.
BTW, I have always hated this saw.
