What is the hole at the base of this 044 cylinder?

The impulse line comes out of the crankcase below the cylinder base mount

The part number of the box is 1128-020-1212. It is a slant fin cylinder but I’ve never seen that hole or marking either. Have you seen or done any 044’s that had an auto choke?

You got it, that's an auto choke cylinder (a rare bird)... loads of different parts from a standard saw.

I still have manual chokes on my cars/trucks/tractors. Put a Holley on, or get one to rebuild from the 60s.

That there rates right up with Stihls flippy caps.

What are they worth? I’ve built 10 044’s, I’ve got 20 more to build, 5 virgins, new everything for 044, not 440 cross over or aftermarket, but I’ve not seen the auto choke saw, what are they worth, why did stihl discontinue it?

I believe the 044C also ran the KAT muffler.
