046 cylinder bolts are M6, yes.

Is the OP talking about actual crankcase bolts? They’re M5 and rarely strip (but can). Depending on the location a M6x20 may work, but a properly installed timesert would be my choice for nearly everything on a saw. As to his question about splitting the case, I would but it may not be necessary.

Oops, I thought jug to case bolts.

For crankcase bolts, a Helicoil would suffice I’d say. Especially for 1 bolt hole. I don’t think he needs to split the case for that, just cover the actual crankcase area and blow out the filings. For a timesert it would need to be disassembled.

Dont be afraid to use the non branded Helicoil kits on Ebay. I have various sizes and they work fine.

I ended up using a slightly longer bolt and I was able to find and grab some threads in the crankcase. Lucky it was the front bottom bolt that went through the oil tank. Thank you guys for your help
