Stihl 209 bar and chain on a 261?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am looking to upgrade from my old Stihl farm boss 290. I’m wondering if my bar and chains would fit a 261.

I assume you're talking about a stihl ms290, not 209. In which case, yes, the bar mount is the same. Both of those saws are pretty commonly run with both .325 and 3/8 chain. If you want to use your old bars and chains, make sure you get the matching sprocket for your 261.
