I have a stihl ms250 and just cant start it when its cold. When hot it starts and runs great. To start cold i have to use the flooded start technique however im sure the saw is not flooded. Is this normal for a 250 as its near new and been like this since ive owned it.

the stihl master control (plastic all in one control lever may be broken and not allow fast idle for cold start-see if throttle lever is past idle screw when in choke postion)

The MS250 seems to have a tendency to flood and hard to pull especially after sitting for a while. You might check the carburetor inlet valve to make sure it's set right, along with the H and L screws. Some around here are hard of hearing and don't hear the initial blip when starting and keep pulling the rope with the choke engaged which always floods it. If you're one of these just leave the choke on for a couple of pulls then turn it to run.

In start mode, do not pull more than 3x. Then move it to fast mode and crank. Sometimes it burps, sometimes it doesn’t.

Cheers the start lever is working correctly and the choke. Screwed the La screw out a quarter turn and it started after two pulls had a feeling this was the issue as it has fresh fuel and is used just about every day and only a few months old. Thanks for your help from Nz.
