I removed the false top on our LOPI Answer. It was blocking too much heat and I didn't like the look of it.
I always wondered how much heat was being held in by the top. Quite a bit as it turns out.
The firebox is running about 1200°F and the stove top is about 1000°F. It is happily pumping heat into the house. That false top was lucky to hit 400°. I can see just the faintest glow coming from the top. We are burning a mixed load right now and it is only about half full. If it was full of oak, it would be glowing nicely.
