I think im ready to shut down my woodstove for the summer. last year was my first year with one, and i just left a pile of ash in it, that ate through my grate over the summer. i've got it shoveled out as good as i can now. do i need to vacuum it out or wash it down, or spray something inside to keep the corrosion down? thanks for any advice

I take it this is an indoor woodstove? Check your manual if you have one. If there is no fan blowing from underneath some used motor oil to coat the ash covered surfaces may help. That is what my CB dealer recommends.

yes, indoor stove, made by craft stove company. it used to be my grandparents, its older than i am, so even if it had a manual, it was probably gone before i was born...
