I bought this used Stihl chainsaw. It has no tag so I am trying to identify it to buy some parts. I know the serial number doesn't do a lot of good (217301006) I emailed Stihl to see if they have a record of it. From the pics can you guys tell what make this is? Guy told me it was a 038 super, it does not currently run I have not done anything to it yet. It has a like new Rollomatic E 18" bar on it. 20180108_195253.jpg.jpg 20180108_195307.jpg.jpg 20180108_195320.jpg.jpg 20180108_195439.jpg.jpg 20180108_195447.jpg.jpg 20180108_195929.jpg.jpg 20180108_195936.jpg.jpg 20180108_195617.jpg.jpg

From the prefix 1119 it appears to be an 038. You might have to check the piston and cylinder to see if it's a Super or a Magnum, should have the size etched on the side of the cylinder I think on the starter side.
Great glad to hear it is, I will check the cylinder side, when I get chance to clean it up. I bought it to step up from a mini boss, so big step.

Sounds like it might be a 028, will still check the side of cylinder size to verify. Thanks everyone for taking a look.

I agree that the numbers 1119 are for a 038 only, but everything else looks like an 028. I see a lot of 028 saws, but not many 038 models. I have one in the storm shelter that I will have to look at again . Tom

1119 clutch cover fits many saws. not a good reference. bore size is.
038 - 48mm
038s - 50
038m - 52
agreed on it bein 028

I just finished asking the same question somewhere else about a saw on CL. Might be the same saw. It was almost certainly an 028 for the exact same reasons listed here, and that saw also had an 1119 clutch cover. The part # on the brake flag, however, was 1118.

If it’s the same saw as the one I was looking at, makes sense. If it’s coincidental that another saw needs to be identified, then I wonder if 028 and 038’s just use identical clutch covers, and the part # is 1119?
