Tell me if this tree can come back please! Lots of green, but dead periphery limbs.

So, not sure what this is, but we think maybe it's an Ash of some type, or a Sumac. It's nearly 4' in diameter, and there is a neighbor tree much like it. This is the first thing you see when driving up to our property. There are no other trees like this on all 100+ acres that we've seen. I think these were specially planted at one time.

Anyway, these were both completely covered in brush, poison oak, parasitic vines, and other weeds and trees. I think they were robbing the tree of nutrients and water. I just spent several hours completely cleaning up the trunks of both of these trees. There are a lot of green sprouts coming from the tree limbs, but all the major limbs are dead looking and bare. I cut one of the limbs off and it was very heavy and completely good wood through the entire thickness. I was surprised.

Please tell me if these trees can come back and be majestic again. Should I hire out an arborist to clean up the dead limbs? It's a bucket truck job or a climbing job. I'm not up for that task. I just want the trees to be right, if possible.

If you look on the second tree, you can actually see there is another tall pine top that has fallen over on it.

Those are walnut trees. If you do hire someone to clean up the dead branches don’t let them climb using gaffes. I think those trees will certainly outlive you. Good luck. They will look nice.
