The big Pioneer 800 - why so rare?

I always thought and thought I had seen were all the JA, JB, And JC were one piece top cover. Guess I learned
something. I have one of them but top cover is missing. Can't remember which I have other than the 2 800's i
have. Very interesting saws.

Here's my 800 - I got it a few years ago as a "Buy-it-now" on Ebay for $400 + $45 shipping. I figured you boys were asleep at the switch for this one.

The piston and cylinder are in great shape. It's missing a few fasteners and has a couple minor dings but will get a full mechanical and cosmetic restoration
later this year. The crankcase on mine has "JA 12" molded into it.

These saws sure are tanks. They will give a Mac 73 a run for its money in the weight department. I see JJs has the typical busted wrap handle. Those were way too flimsy from go.

BTW, the JC and 800 use the same rod and bearings as a 750. Seals are the same as the 600s.

I'm guessing your top cover was changed sometime in it's life. All the JA, JB, JC saws I have seen
have the one piece top cover. The Pioneer 800 is the only model that had the 2 piece. Yours is
clearly a model JA with it being stamped in the case.

I stand to be corrected on this statement. I have acquired 2 model JC's this year and both
have the 2 piece cover like the Pioneer 800's. The JA and JB i believe are the 1 piece cover.

The 090G is a low hour saw as well.

Correct Lee, the JA and JB saws have the one piece cover, whereas the JC and 800 share the two piece config.

Here is a pair of JA's that I picked up near Seattle a number of years ago

Picked up a JC, missing air filter cover and clutch, bad cover. recoil was seized up got that freed up, piston looks good, carb kit and fuel lines to do then see if it will go.

These saws are a league of their own. Complete clutch is the same as the 600 series. The other covers are unique to the Js and 800, sadly.

Sure Chris that would be great. I might try and make a bar pad for it.
Im going back where I got it to do some searching thru they guys old parts, it came with bar plates so I’m hopping to find the cover. He’s got another PM saw I’m hoping to get.
