I usually get 115-130 done but this year will be different....so I keep telling myself. I do have a good jump on things this year and I’m pretty sure I have the material. I like to make one windrow pile at a time but this year I have 3 going. The first and third pic are my oak lines, the second pic is my mixed hardwood line and the last pic is oak and mixed that will get sorted as I go. The last pic are long pieces I keep separate.

The long pile is just over 100’ long of all oak. I have a few other piles going, another oak, a mixed hardwood, an all cherry, short cutoffs, and longs. I would guess I’m at about 85-90 cords so far. My tree service has decided to bury me in logs this year and I must have at least 70-80 cords of logs on site to process. I’ve spent the last 2 weeks doing very little as I had an emergency appendectomy. Finally ran my small saw saw for about 4-4.5 hours today. Hoping to be close to 100% by the end of the week.

@jrider Are you going to keep the chainsaw operator you had cutting wood while you were on the mend? Keeping him on the saw may allow for a more gradual transition for you to get back in the swing of things.

His time is very limited- a former student of mine who is now 26. I wish but it was pretty much a one day thing

Nice Job! we haven't been dry enough for long enough to get much processing done here. It has finally quit raining but the heat has come in like everywhere else and I just can't stay it very long at a time. Anyway, again, Nice job and very impressed!

I had a very productive summer and got all of the logs that were on the property in June cut and all but the last 5-6 cords split. The total length of my piles when added up is just over 500’. I’m thinking I have about 160 cords but won’t know until it’s all delivered. Currently have just over 60 cords ordered and will have it all delivered some time in November.

Wow, and I thought twenty cords was a lot!

Me too. I have about 20 cords I need to get done and haven't turned the first wheel. Between shoulder surgery, rain and more rain and heat haven't got started this year. Hope to get some done before grain harvest starts. I do at least have the logs cut and piled so they just need to be bucked, split and loaded in the trailers.

Wowzer!!!

Do the splits in middle on bottom dry ok?

How do you load splits? Loader/ grapple to dump trailer?
The splits in the middle dry well. The ones on the bottom do ok as long as I have a little bit of bark and splitter scrap built up on the ground. If they are in direct contact with the soil, we all know they won't dry much if any. I've been doing it this way over 20 years and it has worked well for me.

As far as loading, its all done by hand. I have a dump truck that holds 2 cords thrown in loose with the very back of the truck being stacked to keep it all in. It doesn't take as long as one might think. On my big delivery days, I try to have a helper.
