We have numerous trees, usually large pines, that have blown over during storms. Is it best to cut these down to ground level and allow nature to take its course or does it not make much difference to leave them for animals and birds to use?
Are they just in the woods? There are some insects and diseases to be aware of that would make removal the best option. Minus those as long as they aren't threatening any person or structure, I'd leave them to fall safely.
When I worked for the USFS softwood trees were a priority to remove and treat the stumps. Fungus can travel from stump to all sorts of directions. We always cut the best wood for burning or making poles for log cabins. Thanks
