Title says it all. I have a Stihl 044 12mm with a 10mm top end. Brand new bearings, meteor piston and a bunch of other stuff. Problem is It needs clutch crank seal and it will be a great runner, I've put 5 in so far and they all seem to fail. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Bought it from here years ago. I don't have time to mess with it anymore. I also have a brand new in the box Dolmar Ps-32 chainsaw. 32cc great little trimmers. I also have a good ms-460 cylinder as well. My problem is I am too busy to work on stuff anymore and am in need of a good running 70+cc saw to cut wood for my woodboiler. Preferably a running 044/440 or a Dolmar 7900. I am a little tight on cash at the moment but I have the above things to offer. Hoping this is the right place to ask for help. I would even trade the cylinder for someone to put the seal in and pressure test for me. Not looking for a hand out just a helping hand to get out of a pinch! Lol!
Thanks guys. Pics upon request

Hmmmmm. 044 saw and an 046 cylinder. Me smells the making of an 0446 hybrid in the making. I already have one on the bench and it will probably be my last build of this kind. Just buying an 046/460 seems a wiser play than building the hybrid. Cool little hot rod saw though.....or in my case a rat rod.

By 10mm top end....what do yo mean exactly? A 10mm top end in a 12mm saw would make it a 10mm saw in everything but serial number.

Not exactly but close lol. It has a 12mm crank with a 12mm piston but a 10mm slant fin cylinder. There wasn't a difference in the cylinders between the two besides the 12mm had straight cooling fins and the 10mm coolingnfins run diagonal across the top. but there were differences In the piston and crank, namely the wrist pin measures 10mm versus the later style 12mm. Stihl seen the 10mm as a design weakness but really wasn't. A lot argue the 10mm saws have more torque which may be true but obviously the numbers weren't significant enough for Stihl to care. They do however have a unique sound. The 10mm pistons also varied by the ring pin location. You can safely run a 10mm top end on a 12mm crank and piston but risk hanging a ring if you run a 12mm on a 10mm crank and piston. I also want to say that I think the crank case area is larger in the 10mm saws as well but not positive. I've built a lot of these 044 but unfortunate I am just too busy to tinker with this one at this time. Fortunately I am trading the cylinder for some labor!
