Tree decline after construction

Hey everyone,

There are multiple developments going up close by to where I live and it is mind boggling the amount of trees that are dying because of it. Below are just a slice of what is happening. There must be over 50 trees looking like these or worse from what I have seen, and they are all within falling distance of new homes.

My guess is that the builders are going in there with their machinery and ripping roots out, compacting soils, and laying their sand down on top of what was undisturbed just months before. The mortality rate is staggering to say the least.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this before?
