Vermeer sc252 cutter shaft

I just got off the phone with Vermeer and the shaft for the cutter wheel part number 116541001 is 456 dollars! Are there any alternatives to replace this? The shaft is badly worn out of round under the belt side bearing.

Spray weld or weld beads on the worn section and turn it down.

I was thinking about doing that but im worried it will be weak.

I ended up taking it to a machine shop and he built me an entire new shaft for 220.
