I was hoping someone could help me identify a saw, and if someone is interested, maybe find it a new home. I am not sure of the year, but it is a Stihl S10. It has a 7 digit serial number so I know it is pre-1980. The saws is complete and has compression but I really haven't looked too much further into it yet. I am likely going to sell this saw, but want to first understand exactly what it is. Any insight into the value would also be greatly appreciated.

You've identified it pretty well already. It's a rear handle version of the 08s. There is a support brace missing from the bottom of the handle. That puts more strain on the mount on the oil tank - common area for breakage on these but yours looks OK for now. A little heavy for the power but overall a good cutting saw. The top handle version is more collectible. I picked up a nice one a couple years ago for $35 but have seen these go for as much as $125.
Here's a link to Mike Acres site on it.
