I'm trying to freehand mill a few pieces of wood to make a box for my grandpa's military burial flag. I came across a dead tree approx 10" in diameter. There was about a 1/2" of rot all around but it appears to be some type of hard wood?? Any idea what type of wood this is??I was going to use some cedar I already had cut into decent slabs but read that the tannins + moisture =. ( unless there is a way around that or it's just an "internet fact"??)

First 2 pics is just the same pieces soaked with water, idk if that helps or not20200623_113247.jpg20200623_113533.jpg20200623_113607.jpg
