ran my gas furnace since about feb 10th and my bill for about 20 days was $50. Im sure the next one will be significantly higher

I have Nipsco for a utility provider. What they say they charge - $0.097682 per kilowatt hour
If I take my latest bill, take the Kwh used divided by the amount that I have to pay comes out to $0.15719 per Kwh. That's with all their line charges, supplier fees, etc., etc. I have an aerator running in the pond so it doesn't winterkill, so that adds a lot to the bill too. Last month, I didn't burn wood - I heated the house with the nat gas furnace. I used 1426 kwh in Feb and 193.8 therms of natural gas at $0.76 per therm.

489kWh, $95.05...so that's 0.1943 per kWh.

January's bill was $30 higher because I ran a 750w milk house heater for about a total of a week in January to keep the well pump from freezing up. Even though we still dip into single digits or even below zero this time of year, I don't seem to have a problem with freeze-ups from February on....seems that it warms up enough each day outside. It's just when it's in single digits and never climb out in January I have issues.

Yes, we pay 19 cents a kWh. It's a policy train wreck dating back to the 1990s that doesn't benefit anyone except the CEO of Northeast Utilities who laughs all the way to the bank by not maintaining our local infrastructure and uses the money for political donations and buying other utilities. The Democrats explained through most of the 2000s this was really a good things, because it forces Connecticut residents and businesses to be more efficient so once Carbon Taxes were implemented nationally we'd have a really bang up competitive advantage. I am NOT being sarcastic...that is what was said.

My electric bill for mid Jan. - mid Feb. was about $50 higher than normal, extra fans on to help circulate the heat and a couple small spacer heaters at times in cold spots. Better than $6 per gallon propane. I checked my 500 gal. tank and still have 30% left from my fill up in July.

I always have been and always will be my own Bill...

To answer the question, we're on an averaging program so that our gas bill is the same each month, based on a 12 month rolling average. (I think that's how it works...) While we saw advantages of the past few milder Winters, we're going to "pay" for this one!

$85/mo. for natural gas for furnace, range/oven, water, dryer and a rarely used gas stove in the basement.
$95 for electric in Jan.
About 3/4 of a full cord of firewood.

Living in IL, there are more add-on taxes/fees to our utilities than anyone could ever understand. (I hate living in IL... I know, I know, why live there then. It's complicated... lol)

That's an incredibly high rate ours is 11 cents here . I believe your story it sounds exactly like something a big shot liberal politician would come up with. . They promise it will pay off in the future if we just " invest " now .. The cost is high and the benefit never materializes to the customer . I saw this happen in pa several times over the years . We were promised if we permit a few casinos to come to the area the resulting revenue would in turn lower our property taxes . So The casinos came in along with their crime drugs and moral decay .. but after ten years the taxes only went up every year never went down ..a total lie . I heat with 100% wood

No propane in our third winter here. And it has been cold. Almost 60 days below zero this winter. Had -15 this morning at 10 am.

Oil truck stopped by on Jan 17. 1st visit since Sept 3. Could only fit 66 gallons in the tank. So, at $4 a gal, that's $264, or say $14.67 per week. Not too bad IMO. Oil burner does the hot water, and comes on for heat mid afternoon on the real cold days when I'm not here to feed the wood stove. Once in a while a couple of hours before dawn on a sub zero night.

I also used to be of the "Not one drop!" mentality, but I've got a tank of oil out there, it's paid for, and why not let it help out on the extra cold days. IMO it makes life better, and more comfy to use some of it, as opposed to using none of it just to make a statement or prove that I still have my sicilian stubborness. :) Gettin' soft as I get older, huh? LOL

I normally use 500 gal of propane a year.
This year I'll use 700-800.
My 75 gal water heater, stove and two furnaces are propane. I use wood as a supplemental heat source.
Before I put in the wood burner, I averaged 1500 gallons of propane per year.
I won't know my per month cost until I fill my 1,000 tank in the spring.
It's going to be painful.

You don't even want to know. Big old drafty house with the wood stove running constantly all winter, and we're still several hundred $ per MONTH! Of course, having a large family with lots of laundry keeps the water and gas bills high. :( Ouch.

Only heat is wood, The furnace makes enough hot H20 to offset the power the fan uses and still make the electric bill lower. This is significant for we also pay .19 kwh

We connected my owb to my son's house in the fall, last year his hydro bills were close to $500 per month. They still use electric dryer, stove, microwave, TV's etc so it's likely as low as it's going to get. We had some really cold days this year and I'm sure their hydro bill would have been a lot more than $500. The $153 was for January, the other one was sept I think. Needless to say they are pretty happy, they might even help do firewood this year. :)

Coldest Winter since when? Beats me, but it was dog gone cold for to long..

I only had my heat pump come on twice all those single digit nights and both times I jumped out of bed and stoked the stove.

Just got my AEP bill for $128 for 28 days. Usage was 1,110 KWH

$4.57 PER DAY

Happy happy happy.
