3400 poulan gets my vote. 54cc and pretty easy to find.

I've been searching all over for Poulans and so far they are difficult to find. Especially locally. I rarely see poulans around here. The 3400 is a bit easier on ebay. Looks bigger than I want. 55cc is an interesting size for a saw. Its not tiny, and its almost a big saw. I know someone with both a 3400 and 3000 but they're they craftsman versions. Both priced fairly.

Anyone have the scoop on the makita 4300? Home depot has a x rental saw for sale for $180. I've read the dolmar 420 is a good saw and basically the same. I couldn't confirm what type of cylinder they have on them other than its a traditional saw. Couldn't tell if its a closed port or open.

4300/420 is open port and though I’ve never run one against another saw, are reputed to be a good performer, Not sure how they take to porting but I’m sure they’ve been done by the usual suspects here so easy enough to ask around.
