Hi all, I have an old-school JEY that absolutely eats wood but I ran into an issue last night when I was chipping up the majority of a large, very dead, dogwood. The branches were so brittle that when they got sucked into the feed, a lot of pieces would break off and fly everywhere. I spent more time cleaning up the street around me than I did actually using the chipper. Do I just need to cut the branches into smaller, narrower pieces to avoid this or is there a trick I'm missing?

Feed dead, dry limbs into a drum chipper and yes the small parts will explode as they go thru. I suppose you could cut into very small bits and feed each through by itself, but in the end you'd be wasting the same amount of time as picking up the exploded parts from the ground.
