A guy brought me a dead pecan tree. I now know what killed it.
I found a bunch of grubs in the trunk. The chickens went nuts over them. ;)

I had a bunch of them in pine slabs I got and my wood area is mostly wood chips they got everywhere all my wood had holes n dust and wired tunnels in it.. all burned fine so I didn’t care I had lots of turkeys hanging around lol

Yup they fall out of dead red oak trees while I'm splitting usually all throughout the bark and punk. Once I get a handful throw em to the chickens.

There are over 350,000 beetle species and all have grubs as as a metamorphic stage from egg to beetle. Most find a dying, rotting tree to lay their eggs in and to protect and feed their young.
Chances are all the grubs you find are different species and they do not cause the tree's death, but make use of their host for their life stages.
