Wood ID?

If it has a chambered pith, (I can't see very well on the phone, thought it was an insect channel) OP states light weight wood, that narrows it down to Butternut.
Only thing unexplained is the strange smell.

I say walnut. Whatever it is, be careful - looks like metal in the last group of pics. See the blue stain?

I say walnut as well, going by the black off center strips in the first pics which is somewhat porous and the white outer ring, both very common to walnut.
