Predates anything I've ever used or bought, so prior to 1960.

That appears to be a Tecumseh AH47 Split crankcase type engine supplied OEM to many manufacturers starting in the 1950's. Here's another for you to compare with. Sorry I couldn't be more help, not my field, but this might get you pointed in the right direction.
