Over the years I met some really great people while delivering firewood, but I will have to say this year takes the cake.
A tip once in awhile for showing up after dark, stacking for someone that is not able is not out of the ordinary for me, but this year I have had more tips than any other year. With the hard times it really makes you wonder. Last week I made 45 bucks in tips alone, and none of it was for stacking or anything out of the usual.
Some folks tipped for showing up after a last minute call, they called and I showed up within the hour. Some tipped because they were glad to get dry wood for a change.Bought from some other dealer and got wet wood.
On Sunday I delivered 3 ricks to a guy that looked like he didnt have a lot. After unloading he paid me and after I counted it and came up with an extra 20 bucks. I handed it back, but he insisted that I keep it as a tip. After a bit of arguing, I handed it to his wife who came out for some of the wood when he wasnt looking.Gave her the shush sign, grinned, and left.

Just got back from the mailbox, and got a envelope with my name and a return that I didnt recognize. Tore it open and there was a 20 dollar bill. A little note said, "Now dont start anything between a man and wife"
A quick look at my receipt book showed it came from the guy on Sunday.

I would have thought with the hard times in this county it would be just the opposite, but who can figure out how people will react to a given situation?

Is your name "Earl" ? :)

Sounds like Karma to me. Doing the right & fair thing in life always comes back to you when you least expect it. Things like that sure make you feel good at the end of the day!

That sure is good to hear that some people do appreciate the labors of others.

I tell you it sure is nice ti hear about good things people do instead of all the
idiots getting the spot light .Nice story.

Good post Avalancher. Like the good book says, do unto others.

Or as the old saying goes, what comes around goes around... the good and the bad.

Good product, promptness, friendlyness, honesty go a long way. I enjoy reading your posts like others here. If you were in my area I'd buy a rick from you just to meet and offer you a beer..

man, that show has turned out to be the funniest show. We have missed it(the wife and I) and happened to catch it a few weeks ago. Never seen the wife laugh like that. We saw the last two seasons worth on DVD at the video store and caught up.
Love that show!
Gotta admit, there is more truth to it then I was willing to admit to though.

It's good to hear about good things happening to you after reading about the grief that guy from CL ad gave you.

Yeah, not much on tv these days make me laugh, but Earl does it on a regular basis...great show!

Send some nice people my way lol. I have had some real winners this year. You meet a few great people, but more bad then good. People who expect you to come within an hour, people that are physically able, but wont help you even if its sunday at 7pm. People who decide they want you to stack it once you get there, around the house when you dont have a wheel barrow. People who arent home when you show up. People who let you drive 2 hours each way, with 6 face cords, with 2 employees, only to tell you to go home they found wood cheaper. And I could go on and on. I have had quite a few doozies this year. But I have met some wonderful people selling firewood.

Avalancher i too thouroughly enjoy your posts, it gives food for heart and mind...and a well rounded menu at that...i don't want to be regretting anything on my death bed, so even when you sometimes want to lash out at someone, i do my best to exercise the utmost restraint and work out something reasonable for all involved. it sometimes fails but not for lack of trying to do the right thing. i guess happiness is a decision that you have to work at (just like anything worthwile) but damn it feels good when achieved. on our last breaths what will we remember; the good or the bad?...
cheers alain

Dont take too much back, more than half of it is probably true:)

Unless you are talking about the armed robbery at the local Husky dealer. I had nothing to do with it.:)
