A client has a 10 year old Maple that is in sharp decline. He has only lived in the home for 2 years, but to his recall, the Maple was OK last year.
Nothing has changed from last year to this year as far as soil compaction, construction around the tree, etc.
Most of the tree is in decline, although some parts are not as bad as others.
The trunk looks good. Good girth, decent flare. Also, the trunk does not look like it is girdled.
My wild guess is aphids. I only say this b/c a reference book cited aphids as a problem in Mapels.
But I really have no idea. If it were aphids, I don't know how I would confirm this, or even what specifically I should look for.
Help would be much appreciated.
