McCulloch pubs guide says that the PM 225-16 is one of their saws that has no service manual.

No service manual but there is an owners manual, 211468-01. Now who has one? Sent an email to the McCulloch website.

That's what I want, the owner's manual. I have the parts list and diagram PN 211229-03 (attached).

Maybe my local small engine guy has the service manual (not sure though, if he will share!).

Could this be a lead? This online parts supplier lists a "part number" that is the same as the manual number, and the description says "MANUALUSER (CAN TIRE)". There is no other description, but could this be the elusive PM 225-16 owner's manual?

I would say that is it. McCulloch hasn't gotten back yet on the owners manual request.

There are quite a few Poulan 4218 models: A, AV, AVX

Never seen a SM. You can normally figure out from IPL.
