Preface, this is a friends saw and I'd like to help him.
Friend bought a brand new 545 xp mark ii saw from a box store. No service department for the saw. He has had it for a couple months but finally got around to needing it.
Halfway through his first tank, he finished a cut and was walking to the next cut, just before hitting the throttle, the saw died. Just like someone hit the kill switch.
He called around to get warranty work done to it as it's literally a couple months old. No one will do warranty service as they did not sell the saw. Box store can not help with warranty and said to contact husqvarna.
Took as much plastic off as possible and found no wires cut, severed, unplugged, grounded. Nothing looks wrong.
Is there any way to test the electronics on these saws not being a dealer?
Husky premix and bar oil used. - muffler pulled and P/C look new as they should.
Saw will not start cold now either. There is no fire.
Anyone have any ideas on something to check to fix it? Or past experience dealing with Husqvarna warranty?
Thanks for any responses.

Did you pull the spark plug and check that the electrode is OK? And check that there is a spark? And that the gap is set correct?

Worth swapping in a new NGK plug with the correct gap to see if that helps. The original plug could have been faulty when manufactured.

I suppose that's not out of the question, just peculiar that it was working fine for the half tank of fuel then all of a sudden burn out, on a brand new saw. He is going to check spark tonight, I said that right away, (does it have spark, fuel, and compression) all that was really checked was the P/C.
Thank you.

If it's not a bad spark plug then he needs to phone Husqvarna USA and arrange for the saw to go back and be fixed under warranty.
Yeah, I figured as much. What a pain in the arse. I feel sorry for someone that buys a brand new saw only to want to throw it into the dumpster 30 minutes into using it the first time...
Bad look for Husqvarna even though I've heard nothing but good things about these mark 2 pro saws.

Bad look for Husky dealers to not be willing to warranty it....

I cant imagine being a dealer for a brand and willingly refusing to honor the warranty on it.

At Echo we didnt care where you bought it or if it was bought by the person bringing it in...if it was a warranty problem and inside the warranty period, we fixed it

I agree. That said most dealers around here will not mess with anything bought from a box store, even brands they sell. In many ways I can see why, some not so much, as it could be a way to gain a customer. But let's be honest people will always try and save a buck, even if it costs them in the long run.

Calling Husqvarna should get the ball rolling, but 9 times out of 10 they will try to put the blame on the customer.

Around here you can buy husqvarna, stihl or echo in box stores and big hardware chains, wouldn't want any of them working on my saw anyway.
Pretty lame business model...
Box store should just replace it if its within the warrany and they can't fix it and then they can deal with husqvarna.
Or
Husqvarna should direct you to local warranty service and fix or replace the saw.

I guess thats why we were the top volume echo dealer in the Southeast for years...treat people right, get rewarded

He found a dealer to apparently take it. So we will see what happens but a couple did turn him down.

Why would a dealer care about where the saw was bought? Surely, they get paid by Husqvarna for doing the warranty repair. It's not like the dealer is wearing the cost of the repair. Besides, repairing the saw could be a great way to foster a good relationship with a new customer.

I agree with everything you said, but not all people have common sense, and some are just stubborn.

How much money did he save by buying at the box store? The Husky dealers will try to match or come close if made aware. They also will test it for you and maybe throw in some extras. They will help school you a little with info on how to run it etc. Then if it has to have warrantee work you can have a friend instead of an enemy.

Compression test, if good (greater than 120), then verify switch not bad/ shorted and verify NO SPARK and replace IGN module; I drove a rider to its parking spot, week later, dead IGN, new Magneto module cured; it happens
