Hi Guys,

I bought a couple of saws from someone and one of them is a Husky 435. It was dirty but after a good clean it seems to be in very good and clean condition. I went through everything to make sure it was ok. I removed the muffler and checked the piston which was perfect, all the fuel lines and fuel filter are clean and in working order. I even put a new spark plug in.

I then spent the next 45 minutes trying to start it...:mad:. With the choke on it pops, and then i flick off the choke and it will start and run, but if you even look like touching the throttle it just stops. If you try and start it again after that you can pull the cord until you arm falls off and nothing happens, maybe u might get a pop " sometimes". But if you again use the choke it will pop, flick it off and pull it again it will start and run, but eventually just die down and stop. I did this almost 10 times before I STOPPED.

I did a compression test before I closed the shed up for the night and it was at 145psi.

Any idea's ?

Justin

That compression could still be low. Put some oil down the plug hole then try and start it.
On the other hand, did you clean the carb, removing the jets and metal filter too, is the
carb adjusted on both screws correctly. Are the fuel and impulse lines ok.
Are all the linkages on the carb connected and working, choke is actually coming off.

I had the clutch side seal go bad on a customer's 435, give yers a vac check!

force feed it a little mix and see if will run on that, if so carb, if not maybe module or air leak?
if you get really frustrated with it take it up the road to port Douglas and feed it to George :)

Sounds like you are trying to start the engine with the throttle closed. If it will start this way and run at idle, you probably do not have a serious air leak. If you can't get a stable idle by adjusting the L screw and it just dies after a few minutes, it could be missing the pump impulse. If it won't transfer from idle to high speed, the carb has to be carefully inspected and cleaned and the path of the impulse from the crankcase to the fuel pump checked. Review the starting procedure, a cold 2-stroke engine will almost never start with the throttle closed and nearly all saws have some way of partially opening the throttle for this purpose.

Main nozzle check valve in the carb if stuck closed you will never get fuel much past idle. This is a non-repairable fault unless you are @Gaudaost !

Hi guys,

thanks for the idea's and suggestions. I will have another look at it tomorrow as I am putting a Stihl 039 back together today.

One thing i forgot to mention was when it would run it sounded and felt like it was struggling to REV. Like it was loading up and then dying.

Regards

Justin
