Hi everyone,

This will probably be a little long! I have been lurking this site very frequently for many years now and your threads have helped me immensely! I purchased a Husqvarna 262xp several years ago off ebay and the saw I got was a nightmare, just beat to heck! Not at all what was advertised. This site and your guys' wisdom helped me rebuild my saw with new oem piston, refinish the jug, replace the kill switch, replace crankshaft seals and o rings, tune my carb properly, and so on. In short, without some of the regulars here the rebuild would have been a much more frustrating process. So, consider this my introduction and my sincere thank you!

With that being said, I love my 262xp but unfortunately it woke something up in me and I need another chainsaw 😂. My girlfriend says that there are only two things she can't get in the way of, and that's hunting and now apparently chainsaws 🤣have been looking at the 562xp, which I understand is similar in size, weight, and power to my 262xp. I have also been looking at the 572xp, as if I'm going to spend money on a new saw I want something nice with more power than I have now. As far as my needs, let me say that I rarely use a saw (3-6 weekends a year while hunting and camping) and then it's to cut firewood from everything from ponderosa pine to mesquite to juniper. In short, I am a weekend warrior with a saw, but I am the kind of person that subscribes to "buy it once, cry once"; I don't mind paying the money for a professional saw that performs well and will last many years with my minimal use.

So, considering the above, if it were your choice would you buy the 562xp or the 572xp? My heart says get the 572xp, but I value the input from you all after having lurked for so long. Thanks all!

Thanks and apologies for the long post!

What size stuff are you cutting and what size bar are you aiming to run?

That said, if you want a 572, that right there is a pretty strong argument to get one over the 562. Neither saw you are considering is a need, right?
I run a 20" bar on my 262xp and pretty regularly bury it in the stuff I cut. The saw never complains though!

I Would probably get a new saw in 24". I would like to have a little extra capacity as some of the stuff I cut can get pretty big.

And yes, you are exactly right computer user! None of my saws are a necessity, I make my living in the office behind a desk. For me using a chainsaw is something fun I get to enjoy doing while I am out at elk/deer camp or camping at the lake. Strictly pleasure for me.

If we are talking “wants” not “needs”....You still have the 262 so why get another 60cc as a second saw

Get the 572. Especially if you want to rock a 24”

Excellent point! I guess I just like my 262 so much that I'd considered getting the more modern version of it. But it does make more sense to get the larger saw.

I completely understand that situation, which rather mirrors my own. In the end, saws are relatively cheap toys and they last a long time with good care. $1k on a saw you will still be enjoying ten or twenty years on from now seems a small price to pay, really.

i have owned a 262xp, 562xp, and the 572xp , all are good saws ...like you i don't need a saw much , but i have been wanting a 390xp for years just never pulled the trigger ...... out of the first three saws the 572 will have the most power pulling longer bars at or over 28 inches if you not running a long bar the 562/262 will be just fine

This thread is pretty old, but since I posted this in September I've purchased a 1989 288xp. Freaking love this saw! At my deer unit there's a HUGE (biggest I've ever seen) mesquite stump that fully buries the 24" bar, but the 288 will eat through it like no one's business. My 262 with 20" was less happy with the same task 🤣

Dude...embrace the madness. The 390XP is calling your name. PULL THE TRIGGER! You'll thank me someday.

Get a 462 and do a little muff mod
Let me get this right; So, you actually buy a 462 with an electronic adjusted carburettor - no hi rev adjustemt screw, and you suggest to mess it all up by grinding out the exit of the muffler outlet - because you are not happy with it as it already is?

Absolutely! The carb will adjust and all will be just fine.

A not so silent percentage of people here are not happy until a saw is giving not just everything it was designed for, but everything it COULD have been designed for.

And yes, the autotunes on these new saws will adjust favorably to take advantage of a muffler mod. They'll also adjust to the muffler or air filter being virtually blocked, and anything inbetween.

That 288 is a fine saw.
