Got this saw as a freebie and I used it for a season solely for yard work, brush cutting, trimming and a little firewood if I came across some. Ran great and now it won't. Starts fine but won't stay running. After some tinkering, I took it in and shop cleaned carb good. They say it then ran great but now it won't. Telling me I should replace carb. Compression at 120. All total, will be $150.
Should I ditch it or fix it? I know it's an antique now, hey free. I don't use it a heck of a lot but when I need it, I need it. Plus lightweight etc.

If I ditch it, what should I replace it with for the purposes I mentioned. I've got a couple of bigger saws for firewood.

That "antique" 011AVT has been known to run rather well. So well in fact that one of my friends who sells firewood uses it more than any other saw he has. I have serviced it a few times to help keep it going. He claims it has more power than any Stihl 192. My latest fix was to replace the on/off switch. Parts for this vintage saw are rather scarce and not cheap.

Did your shop replace the fuel line and filter? The fuel line gets compressed (necked down) as it goes through the back wall of the fuel tank, and over time can get fragile there. Also the fuel filter can get dislodged from where it is supposed to sit at the bottom of the tank.

And check to see if they used a new gasket between the reed block and the carb.

Hi from germany - we are the guys producing some parts for this chain saw generation 009 to 012. I have rebuild a lot of this saws now and would say:
Carb:
- don't change the carb but rebuild it: clean it, change all diaphragm and gasgets with a carb refreshing set
- change the gasget below the carb and below the valve plate under the carb (both we manufacture new)
- change the fuel line AND the air line into the tank
- after that the carb is dry and can not suck fuel mix
- put some drops fuel mix in the top of the carb and try to start - repeat this some more times and the carb fuel pump will be filled again - the saw will run again
OilPump:
- rebuild it - we are producing different repair sets for this saws containing diaphragm, gasgets and filter
- if you can not change the diaphragm by yourselve (it can break then you have a really big problem) we also offer complete refurbished oilpumps which are running perfectly (only in change with your old one)

I own all saws of this generation for making firewood and my favorites are the 011 and my 009L (also a 011) - great saws!
So if you need parts let me know. The shipment to US is not so expensive. Check out the pictures with parts we manufacture for that saws.

That was the first thing I checked. Fuel filter appeared newish. Fuel lines were pliable and no compressed areas.

I love the way this saw runs when it's running. I never want to **** can anything until I have to. I had an 015-metal housing, no chain brake- that finally had to go because of lack of parts. Pull start finally did it in.

I'll talk to them about a rebuild. Fuel lines appear sound. Thanks. Just message you for parts if need be or is there a website?

There is now a source for the oil pump components that was until very recently sidelining these saws, 009, 010, 011 ans 012. Most other parts could be found NOS or good used ones. I have repaired many of this series for owners refusing to give up on them.
Please send me info on where I can get the oil pumps you mention.

I vote for keeping the 011!
I bought one at an estate sale over 30 years ago and once I decided that it would cut (its a macho thing since I had been using an 041 for years).I LOVE IT.
It runs, it cuts, it takes a lickin and keeps on roaring!.
I bought two other o11's as parts saws but gut them running as well.
My only problem is the oil pumps.
The pumps I have vary from new to rebuilt, and after many frustrating hours have decided that its not getting enough vacuum from the crankcase to make it pump.
I have new gaskets but havent worked up the courage to do major surgery on her.
Anyone have any suggestions for braking the crankcase open?

when the diaphragm of your oiler pumps are old and hard the plunger can not move enough way to transport oil. When we refresh oiler pumps mostly the diaphragm looks good but they are too hard for big moves. Before opening the crankcase (what is no problem - only work) I would refresh the pump first. It is less work than opening the crankcase

Thanks,
I've tried many 'new', rebuilt, and one i rebuilt myself with new diaphragms, and the results are pretty much the same..just a dribble of oil.
So i'm pretty sure its time for surgery.

I have owned several 011 AV saws over the years, all running with 16" bars. I sold my last one 4 months ago.
The extra bar length makes limbing a lot easier as your "reach" is 2" longer and the loss of power is negligible, and it can handle larger trees when necessary.
The low weight combined with good balence and handle setup make it a very comfortable/safe saw to use without getting tired quickly (for those of us who do not use a saw for many hours every day).
They have a very good power-to-weight ratio and the gas tank is small enough so that it forces you to take a break from sawing.
IMO they should be repaired whenever possible as no manufacturer is currently producing saws of this quality and specification.
I think it is very positive news that @ChainSawFlo is making quality replacement parts for the 009, 010, 011 and 012 series.
