what i mean is that a used one will be beyond economical repair if the bevel gears are worn, but copy spur gear kits are a very cheap repair

I bought an articulating one off of Ebay which worked out well. You just have to pass on all the ones that look all clapped out, which are likely in the majority. You can also take advantage of Ebay buyer protection if there is concealed and undescribed wear/damage and get your money back.

You can also set a search on Craigslist for Stihl or Sthil (for those that can't spell) and see what pops up.

Understood. I have my eye on a 24 inch straight unit for $140 that looks great
