I have a real problem with a Stihl 010AV recently purchased as a non runner.Probably unused for some time. After about 6 pulls she will fire but dies and then won't start.I have renewed fuel filter /line cleared the tank vent ,rebuilt the carb and adjusted same.New air filter, choke works,New carb base gasket.Tried adjusting carb all ways .Completely run out of ideas .

I see it now on the parts diagram part no 1120-121-5401.Iwill take mine out tomorrow. Thanks once again.
Sorry, got called away for a few hours. The tiny disc inside that brass barrel, its the check valve, just degrades from todays gasoline and does not stop fuel from flowing at idle thus flooding the engine.

The valve is clearly visible once you have the carb in your hand, but how you remove for inspection I don't know . The outer plate is flush to the carb body with no protruding lip to prize it off.The only other way would be to damage it while getting it off.?

Many will tell you they are not repairable so it needs to be replaced with a new unit. I developed a method to repair them but its not an easy task. Most just punch them out into the carb throat.

My idea would be to punch the whole unit out as you suggest, but that outer plate does need removing first ,because I believe that the valve is secured by a snap ring.

I have only seen where they are a tight fit in the bore, no snap ring. Let me see if I can find a pic of one from the Walbr chart or a parts distributor.
Click the link below, it has a pic of a one,

I just posted a thread on a 011AVT for a saw that acted the same. I decided to just replace carb rather than rebuild as I don't do my own work and it was almost a wash on cost with that. This way I figured I'd avoid other carb issues with a new one. Made all the other replacements - air filter, fuel filter and lines, etc.. Unfortunately I can't tell you yet how it turned out as I don't have it back yet.
Same exact thing tho. - start, stall, flood, no start. Kinda how I am now at my age.

I can't find a Walbro WT29 anywhere.I agree with you it's much easier to just replace the carb, but on this model you won't find one.

I did try to extract the valve, but was loathe to punch it to hard fearing I might damage the casing.Anyway I do have another saw with the same configuration and the same trouble.I rebuilt the carb and fitted it to the010AV, same trouble ,fires but won't idle.Itied the throttle wide open and she fired and ran first time but of course over revved.Flicked the throttle off and she died.I have adjusted the carb every possible way, but the results are the same, fires once then nothing ,clean plug ,express excess fuel ,pull her over fires once.

Had a Stihl... 024? maybe? years ago, that I took in to have a professional once-over... because while I could keep it running, I'm not a professional... and I figured my FIL's recommendation would be good.

It did the "start and run five seconds then quit thing", right after getting it home (from the repair guy). Long drive to take it back, so I took it apart - turns out he'd somehow, without noticing (and I'm not sure how you do this) caught part of the fuel line under the carburetor, and cranked it down. It shut off the fuel just enough to let a little bit seep through when it sat - but not enough to keep it running.

Miraculously, removing and reseating the carb... fixed it.
