I'm getting ready to put new seals on a 490 Jonsered & a 330 poulan - if anyone has these worm gear pullers to let go hit me up, i tried to order one at the dealer & NLA :(

You don't want the one I'm looking for. You need 530031115. It will work for the 490 and 330.

I should add I just realized I should have said early 490

How is the 325 gear different from the 490? I would have assumed they were the same.

A while back I made a puller for the 490/5000 etc and remember it was a bit more of a pain than most, being a very course left hand worm/thread.
Was hoping it was going to be an easy one like the 50/55's where a 1/2" pipe fitting can be adapted...

Depending on the year of your 490 they did come with the same oiler gear as the 55 Husky. Later ones came with the course gear like on my 5500. The 50's and 55's all use the same earlier gear. At least that what all the ipls I have show.

Looking over the IPL's you will find the later Partner 500/5000 came with it too. So it just depends on the year of the saw. It is probably why some IPL's dont show the gear separately and only the whole kit with oiler and the gear. That way as long as you use the gear in the kit you would be good to go.

So which one do you need?

Ok, I didn't go back and re-read the first post which would have made that more obvious, lol.
So it's the left hand thread one...
When I made mine, the threads on the first one came out a little big/loose so I popped out another tighter one while I was set up for it.
I see no reason why it wouldn't work fine anyway, the threads are pretty deep so still plenty of engagement, pm me an address and I'll get it out to you.

Thanks Bill, to be honest I never looked close enough to see if the coarse thread was left hand. I will double check that. I appreciate the offer and may take you up on it.

The place in OZ finally replied they don't have that gear in stock. Not surprised. If I can just get one off without damaging it, I got a machinist who says he can make the tool .

Yep - i guess ill order a nut Thanks for that info - i have not tore down the 490 & this is the keeper

$3 at mcmaster carr

Do you know for sure your 490 has this LF threaded gear?

I have 2 different 490 IPLs and they show the early 490 with a 503104902 gear while the later 490 and 590 used the 503116201 gear which should be the LH thread used on the Partner 540, 5500, Poulan pro 325 and late model Partner 500-5000 saws. ( as well as some Europe only Partners like the 543 etc)

This can be confusing on these saws and the IPLs can be helpful but it goes by the model years. Especially on the Partner saws as they changed from the early RH gear to the later LH gear on the 500's and 5000's.

The 503104902 gears I know are RH as they are the same as the Husky 50, 51, 55 saws, and early Partner 500/5000. I have removed those with my Poulan puller used for the Poulan 2700-3600 and Poulan Pro saws based on the same models.

I'm going to go check out McMaster Carr now.

Found them at McMaster Carr, I ordered carbon steel nuts as I think I may weld a tube to them to mount a push bolt in, kinda make it like a regular puller. By welding the nut to the tube might make it easier for me to turn the nut down in my lathe. I'm not much of a machinist so anything to help that is a plus.
