Time to start the 2023 garden thread! This will be for the entire season---- start to finish.
Pix of your equipment are always a plus too so post them up as well!
Post your gardens, raised beds, planters, pots or whatever else works for you and of course pics are always a plus so everybody can see whats being talked about.
Right now seeds and plants are on our minds.
So far for our 4.5 acre gardens we have the onion plants on order and paid for to be shipped the week of March 23rd which is the planting time here to get 2 pound onions!
A lot of our seeds will be our saved seeds this year since we had bad germination with packaged seed last year. We will still get a few packages but not rely totally on them.
Neighbor has the rr sweetcorn seed on order as well. I have the best luck with rr sweetcorn here. Its expensive but sooo much better ! plus insect resistant! Flavor is out of this world too.
So WELCOME and jump in and post away and may 2023 be the best garden year yet for everyone!!!

@sonny580 . What variety of RR sweet corn? I got all my seeds I ordered except that. Hope I don't get a not available this year letter. I do have plenty of conventional corn seed on hand. Need to order my 1,000 pepper plants and 100 tomatoes tomorrow and then I'm set.
Happy growing this season everyone.

What type raised beds do you use? in ground or above ground on legs? We have 3 on an old concrete floor that we used to use. Might give them a try again this year if time allows.
We had great luck with Earthboxes years ago too.
For me, on the ground. They will be made from 2x12's, two high.

Well I better ask the collective. USDA zone 5b. Last frost date is typically the middle of May. We have had frost after that, but it's not common. When should I start seeds indoors? Tomato, etc. I do have a rack like Del posted pictures of that I made, but I don't have the mylar to put around it. I suppose that with all the indoor growing now that is going on I can source some pretty easily.

our 3 beds are just 3 rr ties stacked up and filled with dirt mixed with compost. They work good cept for having to water them every 2 hours in hot summer. We grew a lot of veggies in them.

Sweetcorn we get is from Wyffles and they have the best flavored corn on the planet! lol!

They say start seeds 6 to 8 weeks before last frost date and that seams to be about right for us here in central Illinois

You can use seeds that old? I've been pitching mine.

Storage is the key. I put mine in zip locks and then in plastic coffee cans. Then I put them in the freezer. I found some flower seeds my wife had saved at least 10 ago and planted them this past spring. Most grew. I sometimes buy enough of seeds to get me thru 2-3 years. Some of the other guys may have better tips for saving.

i put my seeds together as like kind. and clothespin the pack. then all the packs into zip locks. i have never put in freezer. have heard of it, though. i do have some questionable carrot seeds that do not germinate. need to cull that pack out. got so many brands... lol, types! other that that question... never had any kept seeds not germinate over the years....

brussels dont do well down here. grow zone 9a. so i have done a cabbage patch. 27 seeds have just entered first true leaves, some still bit behind. will harvest them young. small. pseudo brussels. got some brussels today at store. omg... they sure do look good.

seeds germinating, the transplants and the cabbage patch. watering gently by hand couple times a day, more if HH arrives bit early! ;)
