Del, if you are in an area that freezes during the winter, what PM do you do to keep the drip system going from year to year?

All I do is to drain the pump. The header system is one inch black poly and the drip lines are picked up and stored. We got down to 7°F this winter so I've yet to find out if I had freeze damage. I doubt that I did.

Hey Del, I love your seed starting nursery!!! I've got a set of plastic shelves doing nothing... they will be PERFECT for setting up a system like yours. That is just Genious!! Are you using LED grow lights, or the fluorescent? I haven't started seeds for a few years now, I always had trouble with them getting so leggy... How many hours of light should they get per day? And, what is the reflective material you have draped over your setup? I never though of doing anything like your setup... like I said, that's genious!!

Sorry, I'm sure I could ask 200 more questions probably!!

My lights are 4ft. LED and 5000k light color. Two on each shelf. Good only for vegetative growth. I keep the light about 2+ inches above the top of the seedlings. If too close the plants will burn. If too far, they get leggy. Plants get 18 hours of light per day. The reflective material is Mylar held if place with clothes pins. Soon the plants and trays start spending time out inf the sun on the back porch and exposed to cooler night time temperatures to harden them off. Tomatoes run about 30 days behind the Cole crops due to being frost sensitive. The tomatoes will be potted up to 4 inch pots in the next week or two. Lots of people use this seedling growing system. Check our facebook 'Row by row' and Hoss Tools for some good information.

The potting soil is Pro Mix BX and can be found at some Walmarts.

Unless caged ducks or chickens would wreck havoc in the vegetable garden.

Oh, and I finally picked up a rear tine tiller! I've been using a front tine and it is just brutal on my back. I finally had enough after trying to get in to work deep enough last fall and having my back be sore afterwards for a week. I decided then to finally break down and buy a rear tine machine. I picked this one up used but looks to be in really good shape.

Here's my rear tine tiller. Not my video but I have the same set-up.

I would have loved to get something like that but I have a fence around my garden and I don't plant everything at once either, so I needed something small and maneuverable. When we first broke ground here I borrowed the neighbors Deere 2305 (IIRC) with a rear tiller, and it was awesome!

I used to use my ac 917 mounted tiller to cultivate with! lol! Still working on getting the chain box back together with new chains after I broke one in there! New tines on it were too much for the old chains I guess! lol! --- It worked nice and riding was a dream even without power steering! lol!
This is the latest Horse that was given to me. It has hillers and the front blade as well and blade has NEVER been on a tiller! Paint still on cutting edge and brackets and pin is still in plastic.

thot i should get some tomatoes in. now is the time. have no shortage of seeds. and don't like currenty prices from the nurseries. but the QB was at one with the g/k's this morning. tomatoes $2.99 ea! :nofunny: (seed packs currently $2.70ish-20/30) well, she found a 14" Champion. ok, let's get it! then as i was thinking seeds/Better Boy.... she said... oh, here are some Better Boys, too. I do like them!! ok.... ok.... we can splurge and beat winter at its own game... so i went with the $10 buy....

Finally got the onions planted, --- all 11 rows 130 feet long of them! s'posed to rain here on Friday. Made a hole poker to speed things up a bit and it did a bunch!
Then I found 1 parsnip that came up from the 4 packages I planted last year! Had that sucker for supper last night too! They are GOOOOD and I love them!

2 water tanks set up to store water for the gardens. got several smaller ones. no rain to catch so far so may have to haul from the river later to fill them. In past years the river always has a little water during the summer but I want the tanks full before the river quits running. --- running water is fresher! lol!
