Fuel ratio

What ratio is 1 pint of non detergent oil per 2 gal? Is there something new something better for my old mac?

Old school ash-dispersant (ND) oil as a 2-smoker mix as been easely replaced with a good modern 2-smoker oil at 40 - 50 : 1 .

Mcculloch used 40:1 ratio for years!

I would run 16:1 in it myself...

I'd run it at 50:1, stihl ultra... unless I was trying to supress mosquitoes..

What is ultra and where do I get it? Do you mean premium gasoline?

256oz(2 gal) divided by 16oz.(1 pint) yields a ration of 16/1. Seems much too rich using todays synthetic oils. I use 40/1 in my Poulans which called for 16/1 in the early 80's.

Thanks. Is it good to run higher octane fuel in these old saws?

And no, you don't need 16:1 .... 40-50:1 is fine.. there have been advances in mix oil techology in the past 40 years.

I actually use 50:1 Stihl Ultra. Your saw will be just fine. I run 50:1 Stihl Ultra in all my saws. Whether they are 40 years old or 4 years old.

What if I have 50/1? Does it have to be ultra? For now Im just tryin to crank it up. Im not goin to run it hard or nuthin. Also the draw cord is a little rusty. would it be good to throw some wd 40 on it?

Wait a minute, you have all of those Stihl saws in your signature, and you don't know what Ultra is?

Better do some research. Lots of good info on here.

I just use the snythetic. untill recently I havent had a need to know what ultra is
