I've got an older 034 that I picked up in a "box of parts" state, prev owner pulled carb and whole air side off presumably because of carb issues. Carb was a Tillotson and missing almost all the parts, and I couldn't find a good source for complete replacement. Saw has good compression.

Reading a few other threads on here, I bought an OEM Zama C3A (from an 036 I believe). Carb bolts up just fine but I didn't realize I'd have issues with the air filter.

As I've read in other threads on here, I've found the carb studs are now too short for the air filter to catch (not even sure if it's the right air filter).

A few questions...

1. Does anyone have a part number for the Zama metering cover plate without compensating port?

2. Is there an air filter that would fit under the original air filter cover (plastics are in good shape and I want to keep original), and would also not require the longer carb mounting studs? Anyone have a part number? I have already fixed the fuel tank vent issue with a lower profile one.

3. If I did leave the compensating metering plate on, is there an air filter that would fit the current/original shorter studs? What air filter cover would I need to fit this?

Thanks!

Would your old filter, etc.., go back on/together with the new carb?

Some light foam in the square hole should work, just so it doesn't get plugged up with crud, but lets air in/out...

No, the old filter will not thread on the studs with the new carb. Studs appear not long enough for the nuts to engage.

So, why not install the longer studs?

If the studs were longer, would it go back together?
If so, just order the studs.

I would consider this, but then I believe the air filter cover/plastic won't fit (with the larger filter).

Basically, it seems like I have 2 choices:

1. Install longer studs, keep compensating carb cover/plate, use larger air filter with comp port, get new larger plastic to accommodate larger filter.

or:

2. Block comp port or replace metering cover, use smaller air filter w/o comp port, keep original plastics. But, I'm not sure if any air filter will bolt up to the C3A carb with original studs. And, not sure if the original plastic will hook on to that style of air filter.

This is the air filter cover I have, and I'm not even sure if it's the right one for the saw. But it does fit without the air filter I have installed.

If it is like the 026 carbs, you just switch off carb metering cover (metal carb part not plastic cover) from compensating to non-compensating that dont have the hole.

Both my 036 are compensating and I don't have a 034 to look at. I know filters/covers have changed. Same as 026/024

Here is another bulletin.

Thanks for this; looks like even more potential P/Ns...

I just checked the old Tillotson carb that I believe came on the saw... it's the same thickness as the new Zama C3A. So that tells me the air filter in this box of parts could not have been the right one for the saw, as it wouldn't fit even with the original carb.

So, there must be some air filter out produced that fits this (short) length of studs. Now I just need to figure out which filter that is...

Old carb on left, new in center. Air filter on right.
