Hey guys.

First post, and English is not my native language, so please go easy on me :)

Found this little red suppository ( I like to call it that for obvious reasons) for 1€ on my local ebay marketplace equivalent. She was complete, but a dirty, dirty girl. I even got the original box (very dirty) and the German and English Manual.
Cleaned her good, and she had spark from the get go.
Was able to source a carb kit and the duckbill valves for both tanks. Replaced the fuel and oil lines, installed the duck bill valves and cut a new gasket for the intake block. While at it, I cut a new air filter as well.
I was really lucky with the oil pump diaphragm. After soaking it in WD-40 for a week, it was flexible enough to do it's job (kinda, she's not oiling great). The outer oil pump gasket was missing, so I cut one too.
The starter assembly gave me some headaches. Somebody "fixed" it with a wood screw, to hold the spring, but the screw was rubbing on the rope and cut it every 30 pulls or so. I fabricated a steel pin (ok ok, I cut a nail on both ends), drilled a hole for it and glued it in. After I folded the spring around the pin (OK, THE NAIL), it works like a charm.
Had some trouble tuning it, cause I don't know the default values, and it has a fixed high jet - so there's no H adjustment screw on this little bugger. But I figured it out, so now she runs. And she's a screamer . Not
fast, but loud (that's what she said).
I even got the original warranty card from Homelite Salzburg (Austria) from 1973.
Now that I had my fun with it, I have to decide if I wanna keep it. But I think it's going on ebay. She's cute, but pretty useless if I'm honest. Kinda like me 🙃

Thanks to all the helpful fellas here, I learned a lot from you!

Nice clean up! My brother has one just like it, used it the other day to trim the low branches off 30 or so pines and hemlocks. Great little tool.

I have nine of these XL2-Super-2 models and only one of them has the raised letters, Homelite on the side cover. From what I understand, that was the first ones ever produced in 1972 for only a nine month period. You might want to hold on to that one because I doubt if you will ever come across another one! Or better yet! You can sell it to me so I have two of them with the raised letters! 😁
