2-man saw thread

A local fellow stopped by this week to see if his Titan Blue Streak would run...it did.



He decided it would be better on display here in the museum rather than setting in his basement so I put the chain on the right way and did just a little cleaning.



Now it has found a better place to hang out for a while.

Progress on my other Super Twin PG.

A Super Twin crankshaft and all the bearings in the saw. The cast rotary valve is between the throws, makes the crank very heavy.

And now the engine and transmission are going back together, getting paint in the next day I believe.

Last picture. 3 different IEL cylinders. Near as I can tell the cylinder porting doesn't really change. However, the transfers at the bottom are increasingly opened up.

Left cylinder is early PD, short transfer. Middle is PG, wider transfer. Right is DD, wide transfer and also extended up into the cylinder. I'm not sure this last cylinder was ever used in Twins from the factory--it came on models HM, HC and DDs. It could be adapted for use on the Twins.

Got the rest painted and the starter together with a new wire rope. Spent the rest of my time cleaning fasteners and bits. Tomorrow will be ignition time. I have new coils, points, condensers and wires.

That is a cool old saw Chris. Once you get the engine spinning you have some serious momentum.

Doesn't seem to have any problems winding up. Between the crank and the large flywheel, lots of mass spinning.

Almost Mark. That is the single cylinder Super Pioneer. The Super Twin is that saw on steroids.

There was a book written by a fellow named Robert Gillespie called "When Titans Ruled".



If anyone knows where I can pick up a copy (or two) I would be very interested.

FWIW - a member here gave me contact information for Robert Gillespie (author of the "When Titans Ruled" book) and I was able to purchase three copies. One for my personal collection, one for a friend who started me on the quest, and one to have "just in case".
