5/8" Rigging Rope Recommendations (Poll)

Looking for some advice on 5/8” rigging rope. After some research on here and recommendations from others I have narrowed it down to the following (maybe?) choices in no particular order. Do not factor in price because it is negligible in the long run in this case.

• Samson Stable Braid 5/8”
• Samson Nystron (Same as Dynasorb II?)
• Teufelberger 16mm Sirius
• Sterling Atlas 5/8” Rigging Line
• (Another choice; comment below)

Planned use:
General purpose with top roping and negative rigging using Port-O-Wrap, ISC blue 3/4” rigging block, and tREX Ultra Ring Sling #3. Mainly on oaks and pines. Not much natural crotch rigging. No lifting / crane picks.

Any comments on advantages / disadvantages of one over the other for my use?

Quality is every bit as good as Yale and Samson.

You’ll see big difference in elongation depending what material rope you’re using and what tasks you’re using it for. A polyester/ nylon double braid is gonna be stretchier than an all polyester. It’s going to be more forgiving if you got a new groundie who doesn’t know how to let it run.

Browse around that site, there’s polyester/ nylon or all polyester.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I should’ve mentioned that ground crew can be inexperienced at times and a forgiving rope with some stretch should be considered. I didn’t want to skew the results, but I guess that is important information to know given I listed ropes like Stable Braid @ 1.1% elongation.

Whereas Atlas @ 4.5% elongation and Nystron/Dynasorb II at 2.4% may be better chiices for that reason alone.

Still haven’t found any elongation numbers on the Sirius. ??

I have experience with Sterling Atlas and choice E... none of the above... Yale Polydyne. both were chosen because I rig exclusively heavy, and I never natural crotch.

Sterling Atlas is 4.1% elongation at 10% of MBS. The Polydyne is less at 3%, but much stronger than everything else. Especially if negative rigging down spars with minimal rope, I go with the Polydyne. it has almost double the WLL of some of the others on your list given the same diameter.

Natural crotch with newby's = 5/8 Samson TreeMaster = high strength/stretch

unless you are going overkill on pieces = then only DB will do

you are increasing chances of 'major fail' with newby's and large chunking

i have used almost all ropes out there fro rigging as i like to experiment

My overall favorite is Sterling Atlas

What is in my wallet at the time has the final say - except when i override her
