Grandpatractor has a thread on this subject going in the chainsaw forum:
http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/170526-5.htm but I thought I'd post it here in case someone who might be interested in helping doesn't read that side of the forums.

A quick background: For the last couple years, JD (grandpatractor) has gotten some of us saw nuts to come up to Danbury WI for a day each spring to cut up some log loads for Interfaith Caregivers. They are in my opinion a great charity, their main focus is helping older people stay in their own homes as long as possible, and helping others in need in the local area as well.

They kind of stumbled into the firewood business, with many of the people they help having wood heat and needing a source of wood. Most of the wood is purchased with donation dollars, as I understand it for a great price from local loggers (some is also scrounged locally or donated as well).

Anyway, the gentleman running it is understaffed, with him and his 80+ year old father doing much of the work in the beginning. As card carrying saw nuts, many of us are happy to help out. The first year we did this, we did about 25 cords, last year was 50 or so, and this year, we have 70+ on hand to cut up.

If anyone will be in the Danbury WI on Sat May 28th (the Sat of Memorial weekend), or wants to take a drive up and help, just let us know in the post linked above. Accommodations are sure possible if someone needs them.

And yes, we will have plenty of pics and video of it afterwards. Here are links to threads from previous years:

thats got to be fun and rewarding to say the least. wish I lived closer. I'd be there!

MD's just a little to far away im afraid.

Are the 70 cords fairly straight? Would they make it thru my processor?

Here's JD's walkaround video. Oak don't get much straighter than this:

interfaith wood cutting

any help we can get would be deeply appreciated!! there will also be a huge garage sale going on there at the same time. the stuff is actually free.. all they ask for is a free will donation. Denny has 4 storage units and two garages full..even if you are not able to help with wood, come up for the sale and for moral support!!thank you all ahead of time..

Cutting firewood for a charity is my kind of charity.:D If I wasn't so freakin far away and I didn't work weekends , I would be there in a heartbeat!!!!! Keep up the good work fellas!!!!!!!!!!

Note for all you "far off" guys: This part of WI is vacationland, and it's a holiday weekend at that. Load the car, bring the wife and kids, make a trip of it. Send the little missus down to the Mall of America for the day on Sat and play with us!

Fishing, boating, canoeing, plain old sightseeing, at least 3 casinos nearby, plenty of nightlife in the area. Minneapolis is a bit over two hours south, go north and Lake Superior and the North Shore area is a short drive.

I'm just sayin'!

Just a piggy-back here: If anyone is leaving from or going through the Milwaukee area with an empty pickup or trailer I've got a EarthStove woodstove that needs transportation up to GrandpaTractor.

I just have a good time cutting like crazy and then BSing for a while.
Usually can't beat the food either.Never leave hungry.
All for a good cause. Interfaith does other things for the community like building wheelchair ramps and such.
Nothing like hearing a dozen or so saws all going like mad!!:rock:
