Dear Friends, For sale is a rare and 100% complete 1971 HOMELITE EZ-250 AUTOMATIC. As you know this model saw was only made for two years, '70-'71 and when found are not in very good condition nor complete. They are almost always missing the special built-in tachometer and auto-tensioning parts; guide bar, bar block, inner and outer plates and clutch cover. This saw has been meticulously cleaned and has had the usual A-Z servicing with customary new parts like Walbro K10-HDC carb kit, fuel line, fuel filter, spark plug, duck bill valves; but also has a NOS cam & knob assembly (clutch cover), NOS HOMELITE #38 semi-chisel chain and NOS rear handle half. The original "Tension-Rite" guide bar has my usual re-stenciled artwork. This saw also has the original tethered fuel and oil caps, another rarity. Piston, cylinder and rings are in very nice condition and has 190psi compression cold. YOUTUBE video is uploaded. $500.00 plus the insured ride of your choice. Thank you. Steve

Tucked under the air filter cover is a piece of wire with a coiled end, this would be swung out to the right to be used. According to the owners manual you would set the idle speed based on the oscillation (maximum up/down motion) of the wire.
PS. The saw shown is of a previous one owned, not of the current one, but the tach wire is present.

That kind of mechanical tachometer is called a "sirometer". Here is a video I found on YouTube of one in use.

That's pretty neat, thanks for the info. I hadn't heard of that before. The owners manual just calls it a tachometer, maybe for simplicity reasons???
