Currently I've got a 28" 3/8 x 0.063 Oregon bar, a Husky-branded 36" 3/8 x 0.063 Oregon bar, and an Oregon 36" 3/8 x 0.063 bar. All are in good used shape, if any of them sound interesting I can go get pics, if they're not what you're looking for I'll just leave them on the shelf.

Alright, here’s my thought process:
Most of my saws I just run 72 dl 3/8 .50 and I can get Oregon exl loops for 16 bucks. I want to buy a reel for my chains, although for the price I should probably just buy loops. I would like to keep all my bars and chain .50 (realize can’t really do that with 36+). Is that silly? Should I just buy a large supply of those cheap 72dl loops so I’m good on that and then buy a .63 reel since buying 36in loops would evaporate my bank account? What I thought I wanted was a 32 .50 3/8 bar for my husky 390.
Here cutting firewood in Michigan a 28 would due… but nah.
Can you tell me what you think and likely correct my thinking haha

I'm in a similar conundrum, every 3/8 bar I have that's less than 36" is 0.050 and I have a roll of 0.050 chain, but I'm considering going over to 0.063 so I'll only need one roll of chain. Honestly, out in the PNW I could run a 36" + bar on my 390, but I'm keeping a 32" on it. If your woods are harder in MI I'd say a 28-32" bar would be as long as I'd go, and in my opinion a 3/8 x 0.050 bar would make the most sense for your application. Unless you have another saw with a 36" 0.063 bar I wouldn't consider getting a roll of 0.063 chain.

While thanks a million, I think that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’ll be keeping my eye out for a used 32 .50 and if I don’t find one pretty quick I’ll just buy a new one with red paint on the side ;)
