This is my first chainsaw and first time I’ve had it apart at the crank case. What is the best way to completely clean the crank case after splitting it open? Degreaser then wd40 followed by hunting sludge and debris in corners?

While we’re at it do all McCulloch 10-10 cylinders have spiral flutes inside them?

What seals or parts will I have to replace when reassembling it?

There was no gasket on the crank case seam, just some old adhesive that was clear. While I’m in the cylinder I can see there was a fair amount of syrupy bar oil.

Can bar oil leak into the piston from the crank case through the 4 bolts inside the bar oil tank or the Oiler gasket?

The cylinder top was black. Would that be from bar oil or being run lean?

There was also a lot of carbon buildup blocking half of one of the exhaust ports and oil in the “muffler,” heh muffler .

Thanks for the plethora of knowledge I’ve found so far from this site just by looking around (heimannm) and others!
