Hi all, ibkkow this have been up before. I have read other posts. But all I got was a headache from all numbers. Here is the facts. I have a coil named CDIC 106/1a that is dead, soni need to have it replaced. What can I replace it with? The flywheel is stamped 1122 400 1204. What does match with that? If not oem is avalible anymore what to use?
Serial number of the saw is 25872860 If that is needed. Please help med sort this out.

Don't take any notice of f/w # 1214 in above pic.
Don't know why that pic came up lol.
So, from what i got from the screenshot is that the 0000 400 1300 coil will work with basically all flywheels? Even my 1204.

If your 1204 flywheel has a single keyway, then 0000 400 1300 coil will not work with it. If you want to keep that flywheel as-is, you need the 1122 400 1303 coil.

If you want to use the 0000 400 1300 coil, then you'll need either the 1122 400 1201 or 1203 flywheel.

Any chans of missfire when using my single key 1204 flywheel with the 1122 400 1303 coil. Or is it smooth sailing from there?

Question for JJ or whoever. Provided you can modify the coil to work with the crankcase holes is there a difference in the magnet length, spacing, or is it just a timing issue where you could remove the key and put a timing light on it, degree wheel, or whatever.
The single-key 1204 flywheel can be moved around to work with the universal coil (0000 400 1300) or the early unlimited 064 coil (1122 400 1300). I've made several runners that way.

Typically I compare the timing mark on a flywheel timed for an unlimited coil (such as one off of an 066) and then test the saw in the wood and make small adjustments until it's running good.

There's many ways to do it, some guys even use a degree wheel. I lap the flywheel to the crank if I'm installing it not using a keyway though.

Handy to have these for reference.

What JJ said about lapping the crank is a good idea, I think I heard of it from from @pioneerguy600 . Valve lapping compound should work but be sure to clean it all off so it don't eat then seal or keep the taper from seating.

I had a customer bring me one of the 066's with the three screw ignition. He had been taking it to the Stihl dealer who continued to crank down on the screws until he stripped them when the problem was the bearings were out and the flywheel was banging the crap out of it.
I rebuilt the saw and tapped the screw holes 12-24 .
In that process I decided to sell the one I had and keep a MS660. Simpler to deal with.

Valve lapping compound will work very well and quickly for seating the flywheel to the crank, it would likely take several applications but its a job best not hurried. I have done several but one Sachs Dolmar 133 had the most scoring/roughness I have ever seen, it did clean up very nice with a good bit of lapping in. I always condone the cleanest possible metal to metal contact between the flywheel and crank, many saws I own and run have no key installed , they have been used in production cutting for 15 - 20 years without slipping. I have heard from bike mechanics that they leave tooth paste between the crank and flywheel to lock them together, I have never tried this and couldn`t bring myself to recommend doing so.

What slot in the flywheel should i use with this setup

I bought 1122 400 1203 and 0000 400 1300. But whst slot should I use. I bellive they was marked x and p, I could remember that wrong.
