Maybe something some know, others dont.
If you take a rafter square (24"x16") and a speed square (either a 7" or 12") and slide the back of the speed square up the rafter square you have a big caliper to measure thickness, and squareness of the piece.
Just read the inside of the rafter square for the thickness.
