I looked up the parts diagram for the EA3201s chainsaw in the UK
and it shows the sprocket with the disk on it, the modified one,
looks like there was a problem with that model, but never heard of
a similar update for the EA4300. That 3201 will be a real odd ball
when parts run out as Makita are making no more gas saws after
the end of this year, the other models use a more common clutch drum.

Sold the saw a while back and replaced with an Echo.
There was nothing wrong with it after the new drum was installed.

Instead of putting the sprocket coverback on, use a stack of washers to clamp the bar down, so you can visibly look at the geometry of the chain and sprocket.
I wonder what the dimensions of the new sprocket are, if the height of the sprocket changed or remained the same. Adding to the height with a washer could cause problems I suppose.

Try what I said, so you can see the geometry of it, and you may see the issue. Use the washers as spacers to take the place of the sprocket cover's thickness.

Nope, just a spur with a disk on the outside.
Fits Dolmar Ps-350, 351, 420, 421, 460, 510, & Makita Ea4300Fr, Ea4300F40B according to the website (sawagain)
It must be a thinner sprocket area, then the added washer brings it up
to full width, otherwise how could you get the original washer and clip
to fit, there would be no room.

Oh.

Based on the redesign, the chain probably gets stuck between the sprocket and washer when it’s pinched. I wonder if a rim sprocket would fix the problem?

I’ll contact Makita customer service and see if I can get them to part with a couple of the redesign. Maybe before I do that I’ll call one of their dealers and see if they know anything, Any dealers on this forum?
