I have worked on a good amount of 462s. No problems working on them, put some new top ends on a few, tuned up a bunch of them, just hook them up to the SDS see what it says and then go from there. The only work I have done on 500i s is install the spring kit from west coast saw.
My shop has sold 25+ 500i s all to logging companies, tree services or Cal Fire and all those guys have been running the 500s like crazy and not one has come back yet for any reason.
Out of the 100s of 462s we have sold I think I have done warranty work on 2 or 3 of them with new fuel Solenoids and one smoked piston and cylinder. Couple guys have dropped trees on them and all the rest have been yearly tune ups from our logging customers.
So 462 is good in my book, so far 500i is looking good, but ask me again a couple years from now when I have had a few on my bench to work on.
