Just recently inherited a little 341. Pretty dirty and has definitely been sitting for awhile. It is either seized up or there is an issue with the recoil and it has no bar and chain. Anyways, I’ll post some pics as I go through cleaning it up and getting it back to its former glory. I do have a couple questions however. What do you guys use to clean saws up that have been sitting? Also what’s the biggest bar a little 341 can run? The owners manual says 16 but I was curious if I could go larger with a skip tooth chain.

Here is a few pics of the saw. Going to using this as a learning experience on how to rebuild a saw. Not looking to make profit or sell it at the end. Getting paid in experience is enough for me. I mainly work on mowers and weed wackers but chainsaws are addicting and I want to get better at repairing them. I will posting pics as I go and will have lots of questions for you guys I’m sure

The best experience starts with a full disassembly, see what your actually dealing with and inspect everything. Find the beg for manuals thread and request the parts list and repair manuals. Santa clause that thing, make a list and check it twice, I prefer to get a basic parts order placed before disassembly. Gasket set, wrist pin bearing, rings, fuel hoses, filters, carb kit and everything found questionable from a close look over. Half the time you'll need additional parts, things you couldent see or feel until its torn apart. The little bit of visual piston looks like rusty rings not scoring, pull the carb and look it over on both intake and exhaust sides, even add some oil to see if some trash wipes off and help ease of disassembly cleaning later.
 
These saws have been used professionally for years and many are still in service. They last surprisingly long and have good balance, exactly what a tree-service climber wants. The loop on the back (hard to see here) is well made and stronger than most top-handle saws. At least it is on my CS-3400 and I doubt it was weakened on the 341. I would install a 14" bar with 52 drive links, 3/8" pitch low profile. Good Luck!
 
I’m going to start disassembly today after work and get a list of what I need to order. What do you guys use to clean parts? Ultrasonic or just a regular parts washer?

I tuned up my dads cs-300 and it sounds awesome for a little saw. He has been running that saw for over 20 years. Reason why I show interest in the 341
 
Regular parts washer solvent should be fine. Heck, I just use mixed fuel and a toothbrush for most small cleanups. Your Dad has a CS-300? You bring back memories of my service work back in 2017 on a CS-280E and a CS-3000 back in 2013. Both run today.

If its getting torn down and its really nasty I'll tape off the exh and intake then borrow the neighbors pressure washer using the gentle tip. A oil catch pan, parts washer brush and a quart of diesel works excellent. Before reassembly I like to rewash using lemon joy and a bottle brush, cranks/pistons/bearings gets washed in clean mixed fuel.
 
Went out and bought a parts washer. Been making some good progress and cleaning as I go. However, I am stuck at the clutch. What is the best way to get it off?

Got the clutch off, appreciate the guidance. I am going to finish disassembly either tomorrow or Thursday. As I build a list of parts to order, where should I order parts from?
 
Got all the way torn down to the crank, I’m stuck on what looks like a worm gear for the oiler. It not listed or shown on any IPL for the 341. It must come off because the seal and bearing are behind it. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Took a closer look at the IPL and found it, sometimes a fresh set of eyes pays off. Going to try a homemade puller technique I saw on YouTube later tonight
 
Got everything torn down and got all my parts that I need ordered. Got everything cleaned and separated so assembly should go smooth. Any advice on assembly? Particularly with the engine block.
